Securitas Direct rapidly grows the business while lowering costs, after migrating to Control Center
As the European leader in 24-hour monitoring and alarm services for home and small business, Securitas Direct serves more than 2 million customers across 14 countries. Maintaining the highest reliability is mission critical, and Control Center automated connectivity management helps drive their success.
After successfully migrating 500,000 SIM cards to the Cisco Jasper platform in phases over nine months, Securitas now relies on Control Center to streamline operations and reduce costs. They chose Cisco Jasper after recognizing the advantages of Control Center’s sophisticated automated controls, and opportunities for seamless global scaling.
Securitas Direct amplifies efficiency with a seamless migration to Control Center
As the European leader in home alarm systems and connected services, Securitas Direct understands the power of IoT, and the importance of getting it right. With more than 2 million customers across 14 countries, it’s mission critical to maintain the highest reliability for their 24-hour monitoring and alarm services.
Managing connectivity is key to the success of the Securitas Direct M2M platform, which connects more than 8 million devices, peripheral and alarm panels, and 100,000+ IP video cameras. All of these devices send data to their customer website, mobile apps, and business support systems. As the gateway for communications and device commands, the Securitas Direct platform handles 240+ million signals per day, and manages 17+ million uploaded videos on their IP video platform deployed over Amazon Web Services.
“We have to maximize the protection we give to homes and small businesses, and that means not losing one single signal,” says David Martinez Álvarez, Securitas Direct M2M capitalize Platform Manager for South Europe and Latin America. “For ensuring reliability and helping us maintain near zero downtime, Cisco Jasper is one of the keys.”
Successfully migrating 500,000+ SIMs
While Securitas Direct now relies on the Control Center connectivity management platform to streamline operations and reduce costs, their real acid test was the challenge of migrating more than 500,000 SIM cards to Cisco Jasper. Working closely with one of their existing network service providers, Telefónica, Securitas Direct and Cisco Jasper took a cautious, pragmatic approach, migrating in phases over nine months.
“We could not risk leaving any customers without service. By starting with very small batches, then increasing the number to hundreds, then thousands, we were able to very successfully migrate 500,000 SIM cards with no issues,” explains Álvarez.

Accelerating growth while reducing OpEx
Thanks to Cisco Jasper’s partnerships with more than 35 network service providers representing over 120 mobile operator networks worldwide, Securitas Direct reduces costs and logistics with a single SIM. It gives them the agility to roam among different carriers in a number of countries, and ease the installation process because one configuration fits all the carriers.
“We’re growing into new countries every year. Before Cisco Jasper, it took 2-3 months to get started. Now our time-to-market from the roaming standpoint takes only 3 to 4 weeks, and we have greater possibilities for new growth with easy access to international carriers,” notes Álvarez.
He adds, “Control Center’s automated rules help us save money and increase customer satisfaction. We easily set up rate plans, and can automatically switch to different plans or carriers to increase coverage like roaming. It’s very simple. And it’s transparent for our customers, with no need to send a technician onsite, which reduces our operating expenses and boosts our Net Promoter Score with customers.”
Streamlining operations with automation and self-service efficiency
In the past, Securitas Direct was fully dependent on their mobile network provider. Every change in the SIM lifecycle required help from the carrier’s support team, which added administrative steps and slowed processes. Control Center’s automated connectivity management changed all that. Now they have a real-time view into the behavior of every device, self-service ability to make connectivity lifecycle changes, and remote diagnostics to understand what’s happening when a customer has complications, along with analytics and automated tools to resolve it quickly.
